The Delhi government on May 27 notified new fire safety measures. This included a ban on construction of temporary rooftops using flammable material, basement kitchens and installing of carbon monoxide detectors.  The government also ordered the fire safety services to carry out an immediate inspection on all buildings that run coaching centres.

Meanwhile, the Maharashtra State Co-Operative Housing Federation has said that almost 99 per cent housing societies across Maharashtra have not got the mandatory fire audits done.

The new government at the Centre plans to construct 18 million additional homes in the rural parts of the country under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in the next three years. The new homes will come with electricity and fitted gas connections. To construct these additional homes, the government has earmarked Rs 2.6 lakh crore, of which Centre will provide Rs 1.8 crore and the remaining will be invested by the states.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on May 27 asked the officials to speed up the work on various Metro extension routes across areas falling under the National Capital Region (NCR). The areas include Gurugram, Faridabad, Sonipat, Jhajjar and Rohtak.

Khattar also directed the officers to explore a possible Metro project in Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali.

The Gujarat Ownership Flats (Amendment) Bill, 2018, has been approved by President Ram Nath Kovind. According to the Bill, apartments in housing societies built 25 years ago could undergo redevelopment with the consent of 75 per cent owners. Till now, redevelopment of a housing society required the approval of all its apartments owners.
